Emergency Food
The Emergency Food Program is available to individuals sixty years of age and older who live in Proviso Township. A case manager completes an in-home assessment to determine need and evaluate for the service. To be eligible to receive weekly emergency food baskets, the senior citizen must document financial need, be homebound and not be able to go to the local food pantry, live alone and be able to do light cooking. The individual must be screened for the Senior Advocate Program to assure that the individual is receiving the benefits and services that the person is entitled to receive. The emergency food basket consists of one week of food including eggs, milk, juice, and frozen entrées. The box also includes staple foods such as bread, cereal, and coffee. The boxes are delivered to the senior citizen’s home on a scheduled weekly basis but is offered during limited times during the year.
